Description
Ganesha is cast seated on a stepped plinth, the trunk curving down to one side and the ears spread wide behind the crown. The body is modelled in the round with a full belly and folded legs, and the plinth beneath is cut in plain courses, giving the figure a base to sit on rather than a frame to hang in.
The back is left hollow, which keeps the weight down for the size of the piece. Oxidation sits in the ears, the crown and the courses of the plinth, and the planes across the trunk and belly are polished back to carry the light.
An oval loop and jump ring at the crown make the bail, so the figure hangs upright and square to the chest. Both finishes come from one casting: one taken down to a dark antique patina, the other left bright with the oxidation kept in the recesses.
