Description
Lord Hanuman is cast with the gada resting back across one shoulder and the Sanjeevani mountain carried flat on the opposite palm. The crown, the knotted dhoti and the tail curling below are each modelled in relief, so the figure holds depth from the side as well as the front.
The piece is oxidised and then polished back, so the darkened recesses keep the detail while the raised surfaces return the light: the head of the mace, the crown, the line of the shoulder. The reverse is hollowed and left textured from the mould.
In the Ramayana, Hanuman carries the whole peak rather than stop to find the single herb on it. A curved tube bail on a jump ring lets the figure hang square, on a chain or on a cord.
