Description
The disc is cast as a sun. A ring of pointed rays runs around the rim, long and short alternating, and a raised medallion at the centre carries a face in low relief. A border of small beads separates the face from the rays and holds the two scales of the design apart.
The piece is taken to a dark oxidised finish and the ray tips are polished back, so the rim catches light in short flashes as the pendant turns while the face stays in shadow. The depth comes through relief rather than through openwork.
A flat bail and jump ring sit at the rim. The disc is broad enough to be the only thing on a chain, and as a one-of-a-kind piece its rays and its patina will not repeat exactly.
