Crafted in Surat
Made by skilled artisans in Surat, Gujarat, where Javeri House is rooted.
Description
The anklet is built in two halves. One is a solid tapered bar, engraved along its length with a repeating lozenge-and-vine pattern and held in a fixed curve. The other is a ball chain, and five charms hang from it in alternation: star beads with a raised star inside a star-shaped frame, and four-lobed butterfly beads divided by a bar across the centre.
The engraving is oxidised in its recesses, so the pattern reads dark against the polished ridges while the bar carries a single line of light along its curve. The ball chain answers it with small even highlights, and the charms turn with each step.
An S-hook catches a plain ring at the other end, so the anklet goes on with one hand; the rigid section holds its shape while the chain follows the ankle. Silver has traditionally been the metal of the feet in India, and this payal is made in Surat in 925 sterling silver.
